Review: Lotus Herbals Safe Sun Sunscreen Gel SPF 20

Posted by Swagata

Hi everyone, today I will review Lotus Herbals Safe Sun Sunscreen Gel. Summer is almost gone and I am posting a sunscreen review now Razz . I think I am one among those girls who spend their life searching for the perfect skincare items for their skin types and end up with nothing-or maybe I am all alone in this world with such a disastrous fate. But I never give up experimenting(see…that’s the spirit *patting my own back*). Now, let us move on to the review.

I saw my sister using this and gave it a try, BAM … my face turned three shades darker Shock . But silly me (or rather idiot me) I was already smitten by its color (never saw a golden gel before). The beauty devil urged me -“ It can do better, just give it a try…its too beautiful to be ignored”. I always had very bad relations with sunscreens and hence decided to give it a shot.

Packaging: Usual Lotus Herbals packaging with a pump dispenser. Sturdy and travel friendly. The task of taking the product out becomes difficult once the product is nearing its end. The pump does not help. A bit of the product will be wasted.

Product says: Lotus Herbals SAFE SUN Sunscreen Gel SPF 20, Babchi Seed Extract, Full spectrum sun protection,oil-free gel, Oily to Normal Skin. A revolutionary gel, the only one in sun care range, containing Babchi Seed Extract, contains ‘PhenylBenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid’, the only water soluble sunscreen agent to provide synergistic protection against full spectrum ultra violet rays, therefore lightens the complexion and retards ageing process.

Directions: Apply on cleansed face before going outdoor. Repeat application every time your skin is exposed to sun. For best results, use with Safe Sun Sunscreen Face Wash Gel.

Ingedients: Water, Glycerin, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Triethalonamine, Phenylbezimidazole Sulfonic Acid, 2-Phenoxy ethanol, Methyl paraben Sodium, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane, Amyl alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Benzotriazolyl Butylphenol Sulfonate (and) Buteth-3 (and) Tributyl Citrate, Psoralea Corylifolia (Babchi) seeds extract, Tartrazine Cl No. 19140, Sunset Yellow FCF Cl No. 15985, Fragrance.

Price: Rs. 195 for 100 g.

Shelf life: 3 years.

Consistency: Bright yellow/orange gel.

How did it fare on me: My experience has not been very good with this sunscreen. Whenever I apply it on my hand, it feels light and cool and gets absorbed easily leaving behind no trace of greasiness or stickiness. But as soon as it touches my face, I stat hating it. My face turns dark and sticky within minutes of application and even darker when I step out. Maybe that is because my face sweats profusely in the summers and the sunscreen is washed off(thanks to its water soluble sunscreen agent). I tired to work with it i the winters but my face felt sticky even then. I was sad but did not want to throw it away. So I used it for my hands and feet.

  • Love the color and consistency
  • Does not leave behind any sticky or greasy feeling (only on my hands and feet)
  • Feels cool upon application
  • Decent price and packaging
  • Did not break me out

  • A bit of product is bound to get wasted at the end
  • Did not do any good to me. Face felt sticky and dark.
  • Not sweat-proof
  • Did not lighten my complexion as claimed.

Final verdict: This is not a bad sunscreen. I have heard great reviews. But it was of no use to me. It felt bad on my skin. It will be useless to people like me who sweat a lot. Girls with well behaved skin can give it a try.

Will I buy it again: No. I do not want to buy a sunscreen for my hands and feet.

I am yet to find the perfect sunscreen for my skin type. Have you used Lotus Herbals SAFE SUN sunscreen gel? Please feel free to share your views.

The weather has cooled down and I will spend my weekend happily learning more about blogging and reading. Enjoy your weekend and take care.

Wishing you beauty,

Aww, too bad it didn’t work for you. I find it very difficult to find a good sunscreen lotion for the face as well. I haven’t found one yet that I really like.
