Being a beauty obsessed fanatic helps…at least me!
You keep searching for the best-est of the best in skincare and makeup and hair-care and bath products and…ah!!! forget it . Maybe you never find what you look for but you get to know so many other stuff, that you forget all about what you were searching for anyway .
Rubbish! For some…but totally true for me. Why am I telling you this? Few months back, I didn’t even know LUSH exists. I moved from a small town to Kolkata a year back. I could get my hands on so many new things. Fell in love with makeup, more of skincare, got to know so many brands and then LUSH-known for their fresh handmade cosmetics.
Today I will review Lush Aqua Marina Cleanser which I got in my April Vellvette box.
Product says: Skin-softening seaweed cleansing wash. Aqua Marina is a calming but effective cleanser and a joy to use. Like a pink mousse wrapped in seaweed, it feels so soft and wobbly that you’ll want to play with it, rather than clean your face with it. Smooth it on, rinse it off and your face feels smooth, smells sweet and looks brighter. It has calamine and aloe vera to soothe irritated skin, especially when you’ve been caught by the sun or the wind. The kaolin cleanses deeply and tightens your skin a little. Immediate result: smoother, softer and firmer skin straight away. Long term result: using Aqua Marina will help to get rid of your skin’s toxins and protect it from the wear and tear of daily life.
Ingredients: Glycerine, Calamine powder, Kaolin, Irish moss infusion, Aloe Vera gel, Nori seaweed, Sea salt, Patchouli oil, Carrageenan, Sweet wild orange oil, Perfume
Price: Rs. Rs. 585 for 100 gms, Rs. 1170 for 200 gms.
Shelf Life: 3 months
Directions for use: Dampen hand and place a pea-sized scoop of the cleanser on your hand. Add a little water to create a paste. Apply in soft circular motions to face and neck.
Packaging: The cleanser comes in a black tub with screw lid. Unhygienic but then the cleanser is too thick to be put in a tube. Make sure to dip clean hands in it. I have the sample, but the packaging is same.
Consistency: The consistency of the cleanser is like soft wet clay. It is light pink in color, mashed in with soft green seaweed. It has a kind of sweet wet clay(or calamine) sort of smell.
How did it fare on me: I had used “herbal” products before. I was expecting somewhat similar. But one look at it and I was eek … I get to see real seaweed in a tub. I left it untouched for a month or so…just didn’t feel like using it. Then one fine day I started cleaning up all junk and decided to give it a try before getting rid of it. It felt like mud against my skin. Not gritty but not creamy smooth. I felt it rubbed my skin very gently and nicely. The seaweed which freaked me out earlier is very soft and dissolves (not completely…just disintegrates like tissue paper in water) on application. Does not lather and does not give that slippery soapy feeling. I was very much in doubt about its effectiveness when I was rubbing it in “circular motions”. Then I splashed cold water, got removed very easily. Voila!!! I had a clean face, not only clean but soft and glowing. I was in love. I used it regularly and got to know a few things. It does not give that squeaky clean feeling but a fresh skin feeling…better! It does not remove makeup…(cleanser???) bad! Removes tan…yes (only if used regularly). I used it in the mornings and before going to sleep to freshen up my skin for about a month, and I can tell the difference it has made. My skin looks fresh and glows every time I use it. I looked for reviews online and saw only happy ones.
TO SUM UP:
- I love the feel of clay on my oily skin and the smell (personal).
- Cleanses very well.
- I feel it exfoliates in its own way-that slightly muddy feeling is not smooth (again personal).
- Imparts a glow.
- Leaves skin soft and fresh-not at all drying.
- Removes tan to some extent if used regularly.
- Some may not like the smell.
- Look at the price-it is just a cleanser after all.
- Does not remove make up at all. That is why I use it only in mornings and night.
- Shelf life is very less. 3 months is okay for the sample I got. If you get the big tub, some of it will be wasted for sure.
- Tub packaging.
Final Verdict: A great cleanser for all skin types I guess. I love the feel of it against my skin. The results are amazing.
Wish Me Beauty Blog rating: 4.5/5 (just for the price. The other cons are understandable)
Will I recommend: Yes. A must try. If you don’t want to shell out that much for a cleanser, see if you can manage to get a sample from somewhere. Or rather save money and gift yourself. I am glad I got it in my Vellvette box to try. If you are looking for a moisturizing cleanser, skip this.
